What to expect:
- Changing Paradigms: The classic Olsen clinical criteria for AKs and Rowert histologic classication for AKs do not correlate with each other or the development of Invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The histologic finding of downward proliferation of atypical keratinocytes is more closely associated with the development of invasive SCC.
- Optimizing efficacy and minimizing pain during PDT. Efforts to enhance PDT efficacy while shortening the incubation period have made PDT more efficient but issues of pain during the treatment remain a significant drawback. The evolution of “painless” PDT will be discussed, including “daylight mediated” PDT as well as the “simultaneous application/illumination” ALA PDT to minimize pain.
- Newest Approved AK Field Therapy: Topical 1% Tirbanibulin ointment, an alpha tubulin inhibitor, has been recently approved for the treatment of AKs. Efficacy, safety and tolerability data will be discussed as well as strategies aimed at optimizing treatment will be covered.
- Do field therapies prevent Non-melanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC)? Learn the outcomes of long term (36 month) studies using field therapies imiquimod, diclofenac and ingenol mebuate and the outcomes that led to the withdraw of ingenol mebuate from the US and EU market.
